ALBANY, Ga. -- A Ford Explorer driver was charged with failure to yield after a pickup smashed into her SUV just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, an Albany Police Department official said.
The crash at the intersection of Slappey Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue sent Anthony Windows, 46, the driver of a 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup, to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He was discharged Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Marla Childs, 34, was the driver of the Ford Explorer, APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said.
"The Explorer was going North on Slappey Boulevard when it made a left on Lincoln Avenue," Banks said. "It failed to yield, and the pickup T-boned the Explorer."
The pickup's other occupants, apparently uninjured, scrambled at the intersection to unload the bed of the truck of paneling and other construction materials, while firefighters from the Albany Fire Department extricated Windows from the truck.
Dougherty County EMS responders put Windows in an ambulance and took him to the hospital. People filled the intersection's sidewalks from nearby gas stations and convenience stores to watch.
