Staff Reports

In a memo obtained by The Associated Press recently, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan said the Moultrie lab would be repaired and reopened.

For now, the lab will be able to take evidence from more than 20 counties across southwest Georgia. It will have to send it to other labs for processing, but it saves law enforcement from driving to Macon and Atlanta.

The lab will be fully operational after authorities use a $400,000 bond for air conditioning and roof repairs.
