Auto accident claims life of Crisp woman

CORDELE -- A Cordele singer died this weekend shortly after her vehicle collided with a tree, officials with Georgia State Patrol Post 30 said Monday.

Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson said a sheriff's deputy who was on routine patrol early Saturday discovered Ellen Adams, 38, in her crumpled vehicle on U.S. Highway 41 near Rockhouse Road around 4:30 a.m.

Adams car was in a ditch on the west side of the highway, just south of Zion Hope Missionary Church and three miles south of Cordele.

Officials said Monday that EMS and firefighters worked for over an hour to free Adams from her green 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Haralson said Adams was conscious and was responding to questions from law enforcement and emergency workers as they tried to free her from the vehicle.

Adams was rushed to Crisp County Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Officials said Monday afternoon that they do not know what caused Adams to run off the road.

Adams worked as a booking agent with Blue Couch Entertainment and collaborated with the group Running Down Romance.

In 2001, Adams' young daughter, Chelsea, was killed in a January 2001 car accident, along with her half-sister and brother, Heather Beckom, 16, and Al Beckom, 13, when a tractor-trailer rearended the vehicle the group was traveling in.

Funeral arrangements for Adams have been handled by Rainey Family Funeral Services in Cordele. Friends and family gathered for the funeral of Adams Monday afternoon.
