Boy dies, brother critical

ALBANY, Ga. -- Justin Milledge, 13, died late Monday night or early Tuesday morning at the Medical College of Georgia Children's Hospital as a result of nearly drowning Sunday, an official said.

Milledge and his 15-year-old brother, Marquis, were found at the bottom of the Regency Inn pool on the 900 block of East Oglethorpe Boulevard about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Albany Police Department reports.

"Marquis is still in very, very critical condition," said Lucie Beeley, a vice president at the Bank of Terrell. She has been in touch with Milledge family members, who remain in Augusta. The bank has helped set up a fund to assist the family, she said.

The brothers, who are both enrolled at Radium Springs Middle School, were pulled from the pool by guests at the motel. When emergency responders arrived they took the brothers to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, police reported.

The brothers were then taken by air to the children's hospital in Augusta for treatment.

To contribute to the Milledge Donation Fund, a fund helping the family pay medical and other expenses, checks or money orders can be taken to branches of the Bank of Terrell in Dawson or Albany.

The mailing address for contributions is Milledge Donation Fund, P.O. Box 389, Dawson Ga., 39842.
