ALBANY -- It looks like the Terrell Academy Lady Eagles softball team has found its new Amanda Cook.
Cook was last year's shutdown pitcher who led Terrell to the GISA Class A state title before graduating and signing with Darton, but taking over her role as ace this season is Laura Lee Flournoy, who is now 2-0 in her first two games. Flournoy pitched a four-hitter with one walk Monday to beat a bigger Class AAA Southland Academy program, 2-0, then tossed four innings of no-hit ball Wednesday in a 19-5, five-inning rout of yet another larger GISA program, Deerfield-Windsor. The Lady Eagles, leading 19-0, brought on freshman Brittany Spilman in relief in the fifth inning and the youngster closed out the game.
Monday's win was also made possible by Taylor Haynes' two-RBI single, while Wednesday's victory saw three Lady Eagles step up big: Carley Law (3-for-4, 3 RBI); Cassidy Pickle (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Maura Milliron (2-for-4, 3 RBI).
Terrell gets back in action Tuesday when it hosts rival Randolph Southern.
