ALBANY, Ga. -- Medical treatment failed to save two teenage Albany brothers after they were pulled from the pool at an Albany motel.
Marquise D'Angelo Milledge, 14, died Wednesday at the Medical College of Georgia Children's Hospital in Augusta as a result of nearly drowning at the bottom of the Regency Inn's pool, a Dougherty County School System official said.
His brother, Justin Lorenzo Milledge, 13, died Monday night after he and Marquise were pulled from the pool on the 900 block of East Oglethorpe Boulevard about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
"I've spoken with the principal of their school (Radium Springs Middle School)," said R.D. Harter, school system spokesman. "It is very hard on their friends and classmates."
To help students cope with the deaths, trained grief counselors from the school system's crisis team were at Radium Springs Middle School, Harter said.
The Bank of Terrell has set up a fund to help the parents of the brothers pay for medical and funeral expenses, said Lucie Beeley, a bank vice president.
"We are hoping that our community will come together to help this family in this tragedy," Beeley said. "They really need our support."
The boys had been at the motel to visit a sister. When they were spotted at the deep end of the pool, guests pulled them out.
Emergency responders took them to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, and then they were flown to Augusta.
Funeral plans were not immediately released for the brothers.
The community can contribute to the Milledge Donation Fund at P.O. Box 389 Dawson GA 39842, or in person at the Bank of Terrell or the Bank of Lee County.
