Three jailed for carjacking

ALBANY, Ga. -- It took about 15 minutes for Albany Police Department officers to catch two carjackers in a stolen 2002 white Chevrolet Tahoe Friday.

A third person turned himself in to police later that day.

Caught while in the Tahoe on Front Street were Drequan Walker, 16, and Archtravis Leverett, 21, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. Laquinton Wilson, 15, turned himself in later, she added.

The carjacking started at about 2:05 p.m. at the Albany mall parking lot near Dillards.

"The victim stated being approached by three black males. One of them had a gun," Banks said. "The victim's white Tahoe was taken. Two of the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle."

They didn't flee far. At about 2:20 p.m. police trapped the Tahoe with patrol cars in front and back on Front Street in front of the Hilton Garden Inn, less than 6 miles from the mall.

All three are in Dougherty County jail charged with armed robbery and carjacking with no bond set, said a jail spokeswoman. Walker is also charged with a weapons violation, she added.
