DAMASCUS -- Behind solid pitching from Bailey Ponder, who improved to 3-0, the Southwest Georgia Academy Lady Warriors are now a perfect 4-0 on the season after beating rival Tiftarea, 4-1, in eight innings Monday.
"It was a hard-fought, good game by both teams," SGA coach Tommy Manry said.
The teams ended the seventh inning tied, 1-1, but thanks to Jenna Kitchens (single, double and two RBI) and Heather Grebel (two doubles, two RBI), SGA pounded out three runs in the top of the eighth inning to walk away winners.
Ponder gave up just four hits, walked none and struck out five Tiftarea batters.
SGA's perfect start to the season has also been made possible by a win in its season opener against neighboring rival Randolph Southern last week, and a doubleheader sweep of Fullington Academy.
The Lady Warriors' next game is today at home against Sherwood at 4 p.m.
