ALBANY, Ga. -- When the report came out that a man was wanted for burglary of the One Stop Foods store, it didn't say the man had driven from the store at West Oakridge Drive in a police cruiser.
"Officers went to the scene and ran after the suspects," said Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Department spokeswoman. "Fredrick Thomas ran and then doubled back. An officer left the keys in the car and Thomas drove off."
After abandoning the patrol car at the intersection of Madison Street and Johnny Williams Road Thomas disappeared, Banks said. The car was found by following its onboard tracking device, she added.
"There is an internal investigation into whether the officer violated any policies by leaving the keys in the car," Banks said. "We are still investigating the burglary."
Police arrested Nyrie Harvey, 31, as an accomplice to the convenience store robbery and charged her with burglary in the One Stop Foods burglary case.
In an unrelated case, police are also looking for Tommy Lee Green Jr., 36, in connection with an 8:30 a.m. Aug. 16 burglary of the Water Service Company office on the 200 block of Cone Street, Banks said.
Police believe he took several items including a laptop computer, a refrigerator and a cell phone.
Green stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 324 pounds, the wanted report stated. His last known address was reported as 3101 Plains Lane.
