Albany NAACP officials removed by national organization

BALTIMORE, Md. — Officers with the Albany-Dougherty, Ga., branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People have been removed from their positions by the national board of the NAACP.

The organization’s chief operating officer and chief of staff, Roger C. Vann, sent a letter dated Aug. 11 to local NAACP President William Wright, Secretary Yvonne Reese and Treasurer Mary Richardson informing them of the national board’s decision.

Vann said in his letter the board had concluded that the Albany-Dougherty branch does not comply with NAACP policy, including the bylaws for units. He said the Georgia State Area Conference had recommended that the local officials be removed from office.

Vann warned the local officials that their failure to forward all records and/or NAACP property to the Georgia Conference may result in action that could include revocation of membership.
