ALBANY, Ga. -- Phoebe Putney Health System signed papers earlier this week to purchase the former Ordinary Coyote restaurant on Meredyth Drive.
Jackie Ryan, assistant vice president for marketing at Phoebe, said the property will be used to expand on existing services. It is not clear yet what services will be housed there, she said.
The facility sits near the 120,000-square-foot Meredyth Place complex, which currently is home to Berg Eye Center, The Veranda, Phoebe Sleep Disorders Center, Phoebe Neurology Associates and Tower Medical Group at Meredyth.
"It's a logical extension for our services," Ryan said. "We've created a medical destination there, so it made sense (to acquire the property)."
Ryan added that Phoebe will continue to pay $23,000 in taxes on the property until it is developed for medical purposes.
Phoebe officials also intend to work with county officials to repair the open drainage area on the property.
"Many people go there to walk, so we'll work (with the county) to correct some of that area," Ryan said.
The restaurant was closed down in 2002 by the Yarborough family and later reopened in 2005 by the Summerlin family. It
is located at 2807 Meredyth Drive and has roughly 9,000 square feet of space.
