ALBANY, Ga. -- The 37th annual Camellia Flower Show will be conducted Saturday at the Albany Mall under the sponsorship of The Albany Men's Garden Club.
The show will be conducted near the Sears entrance at the mall from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., according to show chairman Walt Albritton.
"Anyone interested in planting Camellias in their landscape should come to the show and see the blooms of the plants they are considering purchasing," said Albritton. "Garden club members can advise proper selections for the yard or greenhouse."
The show is free and is open to the public for viewing. Prizes will be awarded in 20 categories.
Albritton said he expects 800 to 1,000 blooms to be displayed.
"If you have blooms but do not know what they are, we will help identify them for you," he said.
Camellias are evergreen plants that bloom in the fall and winter. Blooms can be as small as a thimble and as large as a dinner plate.
Albritton said blooms are white to pink to red with hundreds of shades in between. There are some 2,000 to 3,000 named varieties.
"They make very beautiful landscape plants that require very little maintenance," he said.
