Gunman robs Hispanic family

ALBANY, Ga. -- A thief armed with a semi-automatic handgun robbed a Hispanic family on the 1000 block of Dunes Avenue about 8:15 p.m. Monday, stated an Albany Police Department report.

Along with the three adult victims were two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, the report added.

"The victims reported that someone knocked at the front door," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. "When the door was opened an armed man came in and demanded money."

The robber stole two wallets, an undetermined amount of cash and a cell phone, the report stated.

The robber was described as a black male wearing a black T-shirt and dark gray pants. He had a black T-shirt wrapped around his head to hide his face. He drove away on an unknown brand and color bicycle in an undetermined direction.

"This is a good time to let the Hispanic community not to let their guard down in the holiday season," Banks said. "There will be pamphlets with tips on avoiding crimes in Spanish available at the Law Enforcement Center."

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information should call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or investigations at (229) 431-3288. The Spanish speaking APD-COP Tip Line is (229) 434-2677.
