Trucker charged with DUI

ALBANY, Ga. -- Albany police have charged a driver whose tractor-trailer rig overturned on the Liberty Expressway during rush hour Wednesday afternoon with driving under the influence.

John Christopher Quinn, 43, was driving his rig on the expressway near the Clark Avenue exit about 5 p.m. when the vehicle flipped onto its side.

This resulted in tied-up traffic at the exit and entrance ramps, which were closed while wreckers removed the truck.

"Initially, (Quinn) told police he was exiting onto Clark Avenue when the load shifted, which caused it to overturn," said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department. After further investigation, she said, police determined he was DUI.

Quinn was found to be five times over the legal limit for a truck driver, which is .04. He was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions. Quinn was taken to the Dougherty County Jail. His passenger, 39-year-old Dawn Johnston, suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
