ALBANY, Ga. -- One man was shot and another narrowly avoided injury when a robbery attempt turned violent in the rear of an East Albany Shopping Complex early Sunday morning.
Albany Police Spokesperson Phyllis Banks said that Leviticus Grimes, 39, was shot in the arm during what she described as a robbery attempt around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
According to Banks, police responded to the rear of Quik Copy -- a printing business at 227 East Oglethorpe Boulevard in the Shackleford Shopping Center -- in reference to a shooting and found Grimes, 33-year-old Antonio Gordon and 36-year-old Myron Collins.
Preliminary indications are that Collins and Gordon arrived at the business and knocked on the door. Grimes, who told police he was inside asleep on a couch, woke up and answered the door when an unknown approached both of them and demanded money.
Banks said that Grimes was then shot in the arm and the man ran away in an unknown direction. As he was running, he fired again in the direction of Collins who was sitting in a car nearby.
At least one bullet hit the windshield of the car, but Collins escaped without injury.
Police are still looking for a suspect and are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 436-TIPS or the Albany Police Department at 431-2100.
