ALBANY, Ga. -- Two black men wearing ski masks killed a convenience store clerk at the Miscelanea Guate-Mex convenience store at 2120 Radium Springs Road, Albany Police Department officials said.
The 19-year-old clerk would not hand over money immediately and was shot, police said.
The 16-year-old clerk at the store was at the Law Enforcement Center talking to police immediately after the shooting.
The police are using Spanish interpreters to talk to the clerk and the family of the man shot.
They are not releasing the name of the deceased until the family has been fully notified.
"This store has been robbed before," said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. "But nothing as bad as this."
Surveillance cameras were running and police intend to use the video from them in identifying the robbers.
A customer who was driving by when he saw the police lights and stopped, Donnie Howell said, "It is a nice store with nice family folks running it."
The case is still under investigation and crime scene investigators and several patrol cars remained at the scene for hours. District Attorney Greg Edwards said at the crime scene, that because it is the holiday season, business people should not let their guards down and should be careful.
