AMERICUS - The Georgia Southwestern baseball team received votes in the 2011 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II preseason poll released earlier this week.
The Hurricanes are one of seven Peach Belt Conference teams listed in the publication. Georgia College is the highest ranked PBC institution, coming in at No. 4. Columbus State is ranked 11th, while Francis Marion is 15th. USC Aiken is listed at No. 20 and North Georgia is tabbed 35th in the poll.
UNC Pembroke also received votes in the preseason tally.
Defending national champion Southern Indiana is the preseason national No. 1. National runner-up U.C. San Diego is ranked second. Perennial power Central Missouri is ranked third.
GSW finished the 2010 season with a 29-19 overall record and was nine outs away from the university's first trip to the NCAA Division II national tournament (in any sport), leading 4-3 after six innings of play in the championship game of the PBC Tournament.
