ALBANY, Ga -- A nonprofit law enforcement charity has established a fund to help the family of a Dougherty County police officer who was shot and killed last week cope with its loss.

The Police Benevolent Foundation and the PBA of Georgia have set up the fund in the name of Lt. Cliff Rouse at Regions Bank.

Donations to the Lt. Cliff Rouse Memorial Fund are tax deductible and can be made at any Regions Bank branch or through the PBA's website, www.pbfi.org.

Rouse was shot and killed Thursday night while attempting to apprehend a robbery suspect near the Pitt Stop Convenience Store on Sylvester Road.

Dontravius Thomas, 20, was later found and arrested. He has been charged with felony murder in connection to Rouse's death.

Over the weekend, Thomas had his initial appearance before a judge and was remanded to jail without a bond pending his trial, Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said.

Rouse's funeral is set for 2 p.m. today at Gillionville Baptist Church.
