Boys Top 5

1.) Monroe 8-0

Nobody plays defense like the Tornadoes, who held three teams to a total of 93 points in the U-Save-It Holiday Classic to stay unbeaten. Next: vs. Berrien at Lanier New Year's Eve Invitational, Wednesday, 4 p.m.

2.) Bainbridge 7-2

The Bearcats swept through their own Georgia-Florida Shootout and the way Rodney Glenn is emeriging they will be tough to beat. Next: vs. TBA at Capital City Classic, Wednesday, TBA

3.) Westover 6-4

The Patriots are coming off a tough 65-52 loss to North Clayton, but they showed signs of brilliance in their win against Lanier last week and still are a force. Next: at Cairo, Jan. 4, 7:30 p.m.

4.) Dougherty 5-1

The Trojans simply buried teams in the U-Save-It Holiday Classic with a full-court offense and a defense that held two teams scoreless for an entire quarter. Next: vs. Crisp County, Jan. 4, 7:30 p.m.

5.) Terrell County 5-1

The Greenwave had the week off but they have been impressive early, losing only to Monroe. Next: vs. Central Gwinnett, at Tift County McDonald's Inviational, tonight, 8:30 p.m.

1.) Westover .....9-0

The Lady Patriots are on a long break, but have a big week ahead of them next week when they face Cairo and Thomasville. Next: at Cairo, Jan. 4, 6 p.m.

2.) Bainbridge..............................................................6-3

The Lady Bearcats are rolling and have won five of six going into today's game against Class AAAAA Lowndes. Next: vs. Lowndes, today, 11:30 a.m.

3.) Americus-Sumter................................................6-1

The Lady Panthers are on a long break after their fast 6-1 start, and appear to be a contender in the Region 1-AAA race that will heat up next week. Next: vs. Macon County, Jan. 4, 6 p.m.

4.) Dougherty...........................................................5-2

The Lady Trojans are getting contributions from several players, and seem to get better with each game. Next: vs. Montgomery County, today, 4:30 p.m.

5.) Pelham................................................................10-1

The Lady Hornets are the first team in the are to reach 10 wins, and have lost only to Cairo. They've earned their break. Next: at Seminole County, Jan. 7, 6 p.m.

Player of the Week

Miller County's Juwan Jones

Jones, who was named to the all-state football team as a defensive end last week, scored 34 points with 11 rebounds against Blountstown and had 32 points and 11 rebounds against Graceville as Miller split a pair of games in the Georgia-Florida Shootout.
