APD investigates armed robbery, assault cases

ALBANY, Ga. -- Among the cases the Albany Police Department is currently investigating are armed robbery and aggravated assault incidents from earlier this week.

The armed robbery took place just before 9 a.m. Monday at the Barbara Brooks Beauty Salon on the 1100 block of Clark Avenue. The victim was 41-year-old Antonio McKenzie.

"The victim stated that he was taking out the trash behind the business when he was approached by a black male wearing a black bubble jacket, a red shirt and blue jeans," Phyllis Banks, APD spokeswoman, said. "The suspect was armed with a handgun and demanded money.

The victim complied and gave the suspect his wallet, which contained an undetermined amount of cash."

The bandit then fled. The victim was uninjured.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Annie Rivera, 18, became the victim of a stabbing on the 1100 block of West Lincoln Avenue.

"The victim reported being assaulted by three unknown females," Banks said. "She stated that one of the females approached her from behind, threw her to the ground and then jumped her. The victim did not realize she had been injured until after the suspects fled the scene."

Rivera was transported to Palmyra Medical Center by a friend. She sustained multiple lacerations and puncture wounds to her right leg. The type of weapon used has not ben determined.

No descriptions of the suspects were available other than they were wearing black.

No arrests had been made in connection to either of these cases as of Tuesday afternoon.
