STATESBORO -- Georgia Southern first-year coach Jeff Monken's first signing class includes running back Robert Brown and two more players from Westside-Macon.

Brown, who rushed for 1,917 yards with 22 touchdowns as a senior, is one of the big names in a signing class that also includes his Westside teammates Dorian Byrd, an offensive lineman, and Carlos Cave, a linebacker.

Monken is a former Georgia Southern assistant who was an assistant coach at Georgia Tech when hired by Georgia Southern in November.

Monken signed 23 players, including running backs Aaron Fisher of Tulsa, Okla., who will play the B-back position, and Alex Ford of Nashville, Tenn., who will play the A-back position.

ATLANTA -- Bill Curry has added 29 signees, including six transfers already enrolled, to the Georgia State program as the Panthers move closer to their inaugural 2010 season.

The 29 signees, Curry's second recruiting class, join 70 players, including scholarship athletes and walk-ons, who have been on campus since August.

"We got people who can play," Curry said.

The class includes 20 defensive players, 10 junior college transfers and defensive back Jocquez Fears, who is transferring from Northeastern.

Georgia State's first game is Sept. 2 against Shorter at the Georgia Dome.
