ALBANY -- The Westover wrestling team won the city championship for the fourth year in a row Wednesday night, beating out Monroe (second place) and Dougherty (third), while boasting eight individual champions.
Westover's champs included Darian Kim (103 pounds), LaMarques Tilman (112), Channing Shingles (119), Reginald Sherman (125), Dylan Snapp (130), Colby Faircloth (135), Javaz Williams (160) and Harrison Stadnik (215).
"I think it's a great accomplishment because we had so many brand new wrestlers this year," Westover coach Kevin Fretwell said. "Kids are really stepping up (when it counts)."
Dougherty had four individual champions -- Marcus Jenkins (140), Reginald Coley (152), Eric Harris (171) and Eugene Watkins (189) -- while Monroe had two -- David Coe (285) and Vernadrick Randle (145).
Next up for all three teams is GHSA state sectionals next week at Riverwood, followed by the individual state meet in Atlanta a week later.
The Top 4 from region advance to sections, while the Top 8 there advance to state.
