ALBANY -- It took Brittany Conley only one year to return the Byne Christian School girls basketball team to its first GCAA Final Four since the early 1990s.
The Lady Saints, paced by Heather Horne's 14 points and Taylor Nichols' 12, cruised past Killian Hill, 39-25 at Byne on Thursday night.
Byne (16-10) plays People's Baptist in the GCAA Class AA semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Hahira Middle School. The Final Four, as a whole, is hosted by Valdosta's Open Bible Christian School.
"It's pretty awesome," said Conley, who walked on as a basketball player at Darton one year and is currently pursuing a degree in education. "It took a minute for it to sink in. For the girls and the school, it's a pretty big deal. It's huge. I'm very proud of the way they played."
Byne led, 23-7, at halftime and never looked back. Although Conley said the scoring is usually even among the players, she complimented Nichols' all-around play Thursday.
"She played phenomenal," Conley said. "She's definitely one of my most improved players. She's a post player and did an incredible job rebounding, putting the ball back up and getting fouled. She had two blocks on defense, too."
