Youth to be honored for equine skills

ALBANY -- Katie DeLoatch, 15, of Albany is among a group of youth to be honored for outstanding equine skills next week in Atlanta.

The honoring of champions at the state, national and world level will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the depot located a cross from the state Capitol.

DeLoatch has been riding since 9 years old. Since then, she has gone on to qualify for the Arabian/half Arabian Youth Nationals last year by competing in A-shows throughout the southeast and by winning a top-five rank at the All Arabian/Half-Arabian Regional Championship Horse Show in Perry.

In the year ahead, DeLoatch and her horse, Steppers, will compete in the country English division.

Lee Junior Miss crown to be awarded

LEESBURG -- The Lee County and Leesburg Junior Miss Scholarship Program is set for tonight.

The event kicks of at 7:30 p.m. at Lee County High School.

Tickets, $6 each, will be available at the box office beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The competition will feature 19 girls vying for part of $5,000 in cash awards and $30,000 in college scholarships.
