ALBANY -- With many Southwest Georgia public schools either finishing their 2009-10 regular season last weekend or later this week, area GISA schools take center stage as they begin their respective region tournaments -- and state title marches.

Beginning tonight will be the GISA Region 3-AAA tourney at Georgia Southwestern as the No. 1-seeded Deerfield-Windsor boys and girls basketball teams open play. The Lady Knights will take on No. 4 seed Brookwood at 7 p.m., followed by the DWS boys at 8:30 p.m. vs. the winner of Monday's play-in game between Calvary Christian and Brookwood.

The winners from each bracket in the four-team region will advance directly to Friday's championship games, with the girls game being held at 7 p.m. and the boys game at 8:30 p.m. Both games will be played at GSW.

In Region 3-AA, it was Sherwood Christian Academy's turn to host this year as the No. 1-seeded SCA boys will begin play Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of today's play-in game between Valwood and Windsor. The Lady Eagles, who are seeded No. 2,

The SGA boys, seeded No. 3, will open Thursday against No. 2 Tiftarea at 5:30 p.m.

The championship games in 3-AA, however, shift to Darton College on Friday with the girls game taking place at 7 p.m., followed by the boys title game at 8:30 p.m.

In Region 3-A, the tournament will be held in Cordele this year at Fullington Academy. That kicks off today with Randolph Southern's girls facing off against Westwood at 5:30 p.m. in a play-in game, while the Patriots' boys team also faces a play-in game against Crisp Academy at 7 p.m.

The semifinals Thursday will feature the No. 1-seeded Terrell Academy girls playing at 7 p.m. against the winner of today's play-in between Randolph and Westwood. Meanwhile, Terrell Academy's boys, seeded No. 2, will open Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against No. 3 seed Westwood.

Championship games for the girls will be held Friday at 7 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. for the boys. Terrell Academy's girls are the defending Class A champs.
