Albany Tech men, women both fall to No. 1 Middle Georgia

COCHRAN -- Albany Tech men's basketball coach Sylvester Patterson knew Tuesday's Region XVII showdown with No. 1 Middle Georgia College was going to be tough.

He just didn't know his team was going to make it so tough on themselves.

The Titans shot a dismal 12-of-23 from the free throw line, gave up 11 3-pointers and watched as MGC's tiny guards stole rebound after rebound all night as Albany Tech fell flat, 74-51, despite 19 points from Jerry Lewis and 10 from Justin Wilcox. MGC is ranked No. 16 nationally.

"They killed us -- just killed us -- on the boards," said Patterson, whose team fell to 4-5 in region and now sits fourth overall. "When you put all that together and you don't shoot the ball well, you can't win the game."

MGC's Marco Knight led all scorers with 22 points.

The Titans get back to work Saturday at home against Waycross at 4 p.m.

MGC WOMEN 77, ATC 54:

Middle Georgia's women also hit 11 3s on Albany Tech, overcoming a double-double by former Worth County star Ann Wilcher (12 points, 10 rebounds) and 12 points from Kiyanna Masten for the win.

MGC, also ranked No. 1 in Region XVII, kept the Lady Titans off balance all night, limiting them to 3-of-18 shooting from 3-point range and just 25 percent from the floor.

"We got 3-happy early and then we didn't stop shooting them when we started missing," ATC coach Kenneth Williams said. "We've just got to shoot better."

The Lady Titans' next game is Saturday at 2 p.m. against local foe Darton College.
