ALBANY -- An Albany neurologist has been indicted on a felony count of having inappropriate contact with a patient.
Kalpesh Patel, 40, of Albany has agreed to surrender to authorities, Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said.
Patel was indicted Wednesday by a Dougherty County grand jury on one felony count of sexual assault of a patient, Edwards said.
A bench warrant was issued for Patel's arrest Thursday and, although he has agreed to surrender, he has yet to, Edwards said. Edwards has agreed upon a $10,000 bond for Patel.
According to the indictment, Patel stands accused of assaulting a female patient at a clinic where he worked on 13th Avenue around March 6, 2008.
Edwards said that while the alleged victim in the case did not immediately come forward, the investigation has been ongoing for quite some time.
"It's been ongoing. She (the alleged victim) didn't just make the complaint to police," Edwards said. "It's been an Albany Police Department investigation."
Edwards said the allegation involves Patel in his official capacity as a doctor and is believed to have happened while he was at work.
