Monroe's loss to Westover last week cost the Tornadoes in the state basketball poll. The new Georgia Sports Writers Association basketball polls were released Thursday and Monroe, which had been the top-ranked team in the boys Class AAA poll, dropped to No. 5, despite a 22-1 record.

Westover's boys beat Monroe, 77-63, but were beaten by Cairo, 67-64, on Tuesday. Still, the Patriots moved up two spots in the poll from No. 9 to No. 7. Bainbridge's boys moved up from No. 9 to No. 8 in the AAAA poll, and Terrell County, which lost to Monroe on Saturday, slipped from No. 7 to No. 8 in the Class A poll.

Westover's girls, who have won nine in a row, moved up from No. 9 to No. 6 in the girls Class AAA poll while Bainbridge's girls stayed at No. 5 in the Class AAAA poll. Randolph Clay hasn't lost since falling to Westover on Jan. 9, but slipped from No. 5 to No. 6 in the girls Class A poll.
