The threat of today's bad weather across Georgia forced the postponement of the GHSA state wrestling sectionals for area schools Westover, Dougherty, Monroe -- which were headed to Riverwood -- and Lee County, which was traveling to Upson-Lee.

Instead, each of the meets will be held Monday.

The same was also true for the GHSA State Swimming Championships in Atlanta, where Lee County High had 11 swimmers vying for state titles -- six girls and five guys. That meet was also postponed until Monday.

Even area GHSA basketball games this evening were affected as the boys and girls games between Westover vs. Peach County, Cairo vs. Monroe and Dougherty vs. Worth County were all pushed back until Saturday. Monroe-Cairo will start at 5 p.m., while Westover-Peach and Dougherty-Worth will begin at 6 p.m.

Outside of Albany, Early County vs. Cook was postponed until Saturday, forcing the Bobcats to cancel their season finale vs. Miller County on Saturday night.

The GISA region tournaments (3-AAA, 3-AA and 3-A) scheduled for tonight vary in their arrangements. The 3-A tourney finals featuring both Terrell Academy teams in Cordele was postponed until Saturday at 7 p.m. (girls title game) and 8:30 p.m. (boys).

The 3-AA tournament being played in Albany at Darton will proceed as planned as the SCA boys will play for the title tonight at 8:30 p.m. against Tiftarea.

The 3-AAA title games were still scheduled for tonight at GSW in Americus at 7 p.m. (girls) and 8:30 p.m. (boys). Deerfield's boys and girls play Westfield in both.

g COLLEGE CANCELLATIONS: GSW tennis' trip to ASU today was canceled Thursday and postponed until Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Darton's baseball games today against Chipola and Wallace-Dothan were scratched, but those two teams will travel to Albany on Saturday instead with DC playing Wallace at noon and Chipola at 6 p.m.
