ALBANY -- Let it snow. Let it snow. Let it snow.
In a rarity in Southwest Georgia, snowfall Friday prompted the postponements of the GISA Region 3-AAA and 3-AA championship basketball games featuring Deerfield's boys and girls, and Sherwood's boys. Instead, the games were rescheduled for today as the No. 1-seeded Lady Knights will play No. 2 Westfield at 5 p.m. at Southland Academy for the title, and the No. 1 DWS boys title game -- also against Westfield -- will follow immediately after at approximately 6:30 p.m.
As for Region 3-AA, the early rounds were held at Sherwood, but the championship games will be at Darton tonight with the No. 1-seeded Eagles taking on No. 2 Tiftarea at 8:30 p.m. The girls championship features a one-loss Tiftarea girls team against Valwood at 7 p.m.
The Region 3-A championship games in Cordele -- featuring Terrell Academy's boys and girls teams -- were postponed late Thursday and rescheduled for today. Those will be played at Fullington Academy at 7 p.m. (No. 1 TAE girls vs. No. 3 Crisp Academy) and 8:30 p.m. (No. 2 TAE boys vs. No. 1 Fullington).
All of Friday's local public school basketball games, as reported by The Herald on Friday, were moved to today at their regularly scheduled times. The only change was the Monroe-Cairo showdown, which will start an hour earlier than planned at 5 p.m. today in Albany.
GSW SCHEDULE CHANGES:
Today's GSW tennis match vs. Fort Valley was rescheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. Today's DH for GSW softball vs. Francis Marion was pushed back to Monday. Today's DH for GSW baseball vs. West Alabama was canceled, but the teams will play a DH on Sunday. Start time TBA.
