ALBANY -- Ole Times Country Buffet and The Albany Herald are about to make some Herald reader $1,000 richer.
Starting Monday, clues will appear in the Classified section of each Monday and Saturday edition of The Herald. The clues will lead some clever reader to a small blue box -- hidden at a public place in the area -- that is the key to a $1,000 cash prize, a free one-year subscription to The Herald and one free meal per week for a year at the popular Ole Times restaurant.
"I think it will be a lot of fun for The Herald's readers," Ole Times Manager B.J. Fletcher said of the contest. "I've seen this kind of thing done before in other cities, and the people really had a big time with it."
Readers who pick up copies of each Monday and Saturday paper can scan the Classifieds for clues that lead to the prize. The lucky person who makes the discovery can call Herald Circulation Director Michael Hill at (229) 438-3213 to claim his or her prize.
"I'd like to remind participants that the (blue box) is not buried, so they shouldn't do any digging in search of the prize," Hill said. "If they use the clues -- which will get increasingly more direct -- they'll be able to find it.
"If we get the kind of response to the contest that we expect, this is something we'll most likely do again."
The all-important blue box is hidden on public property in the metro Albany region.
