Georgia Southwestern was swept (8-0, 11-7) in its Peach Belt-opening doubleheader Sunday against UNC-Pembroke.
GSW (2-6, 0-2 PBC) got four RBI from shortstop Lyndi Duff, who went 3-for-6 at the plate with a double and a home run. Gabby Buck went 3-for-5 with a RBI and a walk while scoring two runs for the Hurricanes, who drop their first two PBC games for the third year in a row.
Southwestern wraps-up a Carolina swing today with a doubleheader at Francis Marion beginning at 1:00 p.m.
PREP BASKETBALL: The Terrell Academy boys basketball struggled from the foul line and lost, 57-49, against Fullington Academy in the GISA Region 3-A title game late Saturday.
"We just struggled from the free-throw line," said Eagles coach Rundy Foster, whose team is 17-4. "They only missed four, and we were 12-for-26."
Riley Davis led Terrell Academy with 15 points, followed by Jonathan Farr with 12.
At halftime, Fullington led, 25-21.
As it prepares for state, which begins later this week, the Eagles will start four players who won a state title last year in football.
Foster hopes the intangibles learned from that state title run will be a big factor.
"Winning from other sports like football can be contagious," Foster said. "I think they are used to winning. Once you win in one sport, you get a taste of it and you want to continue to win."
