Historic site to tout African-American spiritual

PLAINS -- The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site will present "The African American Spiritual as a National Treasure" this weekend.

The free event is schedule for 1:15 p.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the site, located at 300 North Bond St., Plains.

Presenting Saturday's program will be Calvin Earl, social activist, professional speaker, recording artist and keeper of the African American spiritual.

Earl gained national notoriety in 2007 when he motivated the U.S. Congress to unanimously recognize the African-American spiritual as a national treasure.
