LOCAL COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Lady Rams fall to Columbus St.

ALBANY -- The Albany State softball team was swept, 1-0 and 11-3, by Columbus State in a Wednesday doubleheader.

It was the Lady Rams' first action in more than a week.

In the first game, losing pitcher Sasha Reece gave up the run, but it was unearned.

"I've got to give Columbus State credit, they came back ready to play in the second game and we didn't have the same energy," said ASU coach Robert Skinner.

GSW WINS ON PINK NIGHT: The Georgia Southwestern Lady Hurricanes made the most of their Pink Night, beating Georgia College & State, 73-61, on Wednesday night.

Brittany Reynolds led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Kanita Holloway (13 points, 11 rebounds), and Terra Branch and Whitley Wiltz with 12 each.

Georgia Southwestern, which led, 39-21 at halftime, finished 43 percent from the field and 78.9 from the foul line.

In the men's game, 23rd-ranked Georgia College & State's Josh Hurst made two free throws with four seconds left to lift his team to a 61-60 win.

GSW was led by Marcus Scott with a game-high 23 points, followed by Evan Mobley with 17 and Chris Rawls with 13 points and nine rebounds.

ALBANY TECH MEN WIN: Wilbur Lake and Jerry Lewis each scored 18 points for Albany Tech as they took down No. 2 Coastal Georgia, 72-68, Wednesday.

"It gives us confidence," said coach Sylvester Patterson. "We have beaten two (Georgia Perimeter) top teams in a row.

The win puts Albany Tech's record even in the region (6-6) as well as overall (14-14). Justin Wilcox added 12 points for Tech. The hot player for Coastal Georgia was Jonathan Brooks who finished with 17 points.

Albany Tech looks to keep its winning streak alive in its next game on Saturday against Atlanta Metropolitan College.

DARTON WOMEN LOSE: Darton went into the half trailing, 30-29. against South Georgia Tech.

The Lady Jets then pulled away for a 79-55 win.

"That's a tough team," said Darton head coach Laura Blackwell, whose team was out rebounded 56-38 in the game. The loss drops Darton's record to 17-11 overall with an even 6-6 region record. Marah Wright led the way for Darton with 15 points and Dominique Gilbert added 13 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Deatric Smith led all scorers with 18 points for South GA Tech.

Darton gears up for region play next Tuesday.

"We want to make a deep run in the region." Blackwell said.
