MOULTRIE -- A Moultrie man survived a gunman's attack at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, a Moultrie Police Department official said.
Multiple gunshots hit a Chevrolet driven by 25-year-old Marcus Richardson on the 800 block of Eighth Avenue, said police Commander Alfonzo Cook. The shots wounded Richardson, smashed out the windows in the car and put holes in the car's body, he added.
"He drove the vehicle to a relative's house a little distance away at 1104 14th St. S.E.," Cook said. "His aunt took him to the hospital."
Richardson, of the 300 block of Summer Circle, underwent surgery for his wounds at Colquitt Regional Medical Center that day, Cook said. He believed that Richardson's condition was good on Tuesday.
A hospital spokesman said that he could not give out information on Richardson Wednesday.
The shooting may have been an attempted robbery by Simon Peter Johnson Jr., Cook said. Johnson, 5 foot, 6 inches tall and weighing more than 145 pounds remains wanted for other robbery, probation violation charges and in connection with this shooting, he added.
"He (Johnson) used a small caliber handgun," Cook said. "We are looking into robbery as the motive. We would like to get a better picture when the victim (Richardson) is not under duress."
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Johnson, should call Moultrie police at (229) 890-5500.
