ALBANY -- Sherwood Christian Academy star Dontavious Brown's gridiron road is taking him to Tennessee, where he will play next season at Austin Peay State.
The FCS school, according to Sherwood football coach Reggie Mitchell, has expressed an interest to start him all four years.
"Arkansas State was at first looking at him, but after that didn't work out, Austin Peay State showed a strong interest," Mitchell said. "Whether he's a defensive back, returner or running back, he has a great chance at playing."
This past season, Brown played a big role in Sherwood's first GISA region championship, rushing for 1,708 yards on only 153 carries. During one contest, Brown rushed for 353 yards.
"My dream has been to play college football," said Brown, who added he will visit the school this weekend.
As Brown prepares for college football, he gave Mitchell credit for preparing him for the next level.
"He's prepared me as well as I can be prepared," Brown said. "He's always stressed to us the importance of being a man first, and then a football player second."
Wearing an Austin Peay State cap while his Sherwood home and away jerseys were behind him, Brown could not contain his smile.
"I'm really excited," Brown said. "Many people don't even get the chance to play college football, and here I am getting that chance along with the opportunity to further my education."
