Missing grandmother returns home to family

ALBANY -- A grandmother reported missing Friday has returned home unharmed, an Albany Police Department report states.

Marie Harper Wright, 51, phoned her family to tell them she was safe, said Phyllis Banks, police spokeswoman. She told them where to pick up her daughter's 1997 white Pontiac Grand Am that Wright had been driving, Banks added.

"We have no idea where she was or what she was doing while she was reported missing," Banks said. "No charges have been filed."

A lookout for Wright was issued when her daughter, LaShonna Lawson, reported Wright and Lawson's 3-year-old daughter, Tamira Collins, missing, Banks said.

Wright, driving the Pontiac, picked up Tamira at 3 p.m. Friday from Tift Avenue Head Start. When the pair did not return home, Lawson reported them missing.

A family member spotted Wright in the Pontiac with Tamira Saturday about 10:30 p.m. The family member got Tamira out of the car and took her home.

Wright drove away and was not heard from until Tuesday.

"She was kept in the system as missing until she called her family," Banks said.
