Albany's Brown wins Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot title -- again
ALBANY -- Albany's Jordan Deshawn Brown won the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot State of Georgia Championship for the second year in a row. Brown won the 2010 Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot State of Georgia Championship for the 8-9 year old boys' division by making 24 of 25 free throws last Saturday in Covington. Brown also won the 2009 Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot State of Georgia Championship for the 8-9 year old boys' division by making 18 of 25 free throws last year at the same site.
Brown is a third-grade honors student at Lincoln Fundamental Magnet School. Prior to winning the state competition, Brown first won the 2010 Elks Lodge District Hoop Shoot Competition by making 25 of 25 free throws, as well as the local competition by making 20 of 25 free throws. Both competitions were held at Albany State University.
Next up for Brown? A chance to win at the national level.
On March 20, Brown will represent the Georgia as he competes against winners from South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama at Valdosta State University for the Southeast Regional Championship. The winner will advance to the National Championship that will be held in Massachusetts later this year. The winners of the National Championship will have their names listed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. Brown says he is confident that he can make 25 of 25 free throws to win the Regional and then go on to win the National championship and bring it back to Southwest Georgia.
