No twinbill for Westover

Westover’s boys and girls teams had hoped to host a doubleheader in the opening rounds of the state basketball tournament, but all three parties didn’t agree, so the boys will open play on Friday and the girls will play their first game on Saturday.

Westover’s Patriots (21-4) face Woodland (17-11) at 7 p.m. Friday, and the Westover Lady Patriots (23-3) play Jackson, Atlanta (18-8) at 6 p.m. Saturday. Westover is hosting because both teams won the Region 1-AAA titles and are No. 1 seeds, facing No. 4 seeds from Region 4-AAA.

Monroe’s Tornadoes (24-2) are at home at 6 p.m. Friday by virtue of finishing second in Region 1-AAA and will host Spalding (18-8), the No. 3 seed from Region 4-AAA. Dougherty’s third-seeded Trojans (12-12) are on the road and play at 7 p.m. Friday at Eagles Landing (18-10), the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AAA.

Monroe’s Lady Tornadoes (12-14) play at 4 p.m. Saturday at No. 1 seed Rutland (22-6) and Albany’s Squaws are on the road Saturday at 4 p.m. against Northeast, Macon (24-3), the No. 1 seed from Region 4-AA.
