Doctor indicted on second assault claim

ALBANY -- An Albany doctor has been indicted for a second time on charges he sexually assaulted a patient, court documents show.

Dr. Kalpesh Patel was indicted Wednesday by the Dougherty County Grand Jury on one count of sexual assault of a patient, court records state.

The incident alleged in the indictment is the second to surface against Patel, who was indicted Feb. 10 on the same charge for a different incident. He turned himself in to sheriff deputies and was released on a $10,200 bond.

In the indictment issued Wednesday, a female patient contends that Patel removed her blouse and bra and placed his hands on her legs in an effort to gain access to view up her skirt "in acts unrelated to any medical procedure."

Neither District Attorney Greg Edwards nor Patel's attorney could be reached for comment Thursday.

The Albany Herald does not print the names of alleged sexual assault victims.
