Albany -- Baconton Charter freshman Brock Pinson had a heck of a varsity debut Thursday when he struck out nine batters, walked two and gave up just two hits in a 13-0 win against Dougherty.

And it only lasted five innings.

"It's good to see that from a young guy, to see him eat up innings like that," said Baconton Charter coach Bubber Birdsong, whose team improved to 2-0, while Dougherty fell to 0-1.

Dougherty's two hits were delivered by Josh Fuller and Bryant Whitaker, but it wasn't enough to surpass Baconton's hit parade of 13 knocks, including four blazers who had two each: Tyler Neeld, Douglas Nobles, James Davis and Keifer Daughtry.

Baconton's next game is today at Early County at 6 p.m., while Dougherty plays again at home today against Miller County at 5:30 p.m.

The Rams improved to 2-0 on the season thanks to Corey Odum on the mound (7 IP, 5 K, 2BB) and the bats of Allen Fender (two hits) and a home run by Bryant Reddell.

Worth scored two in the first, two in the third and then broke the 4-4 tie with four in the sixth.

Fender finished with three RBI, while Reddell had two and Will Peacock and Luke Powell with one each.

Westover won its second straight match to start the season Thursday, defeating Monroe, 11-1. Peter Morgan and Danny Brown both had four gaols, while Bridger Ferrell, Sagar Patel and Eric Palmer each had a goal.

Brown had three assists, Sagar Patel had two assists, Aakash Patel had one assist, and Peter Morgan had one assist.

WHS' next game is at home on Tuesday against Dougherty High School.
