Americus -- The Darton College Lady Cavaliers hoops team did not seem rusty at all after having 18 days off for the holidays as they defeated Shelton State C.C. on Saturday, 80-68, in the South Georgia Tech Holiday Classic, then followed that win up with an 81-48 trouncing of Southern Union on Sunday to improve to 9-6 on the season.
In both games, Albany native Dominique Gilbert led all scorers and rebounders with 22 points and 14 rebounds in the win against Shelton, and also posted four blocks. Then Sunday, Gilbert led the way with a team-high 29 points for 14 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double.
Marah Wright netted a double-double, collecting 19 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday, while also stepping up for DC was Brittany Thornton with 15 points. D'Arcy Williams added 10 and seven assists.
Darton is off until Friday, which is when it will open its Region XVII schedule on the road against Atlanta Metro.
