2009 Herald All-Area Girls Cross Country Team

Katie Meagher, Sherwood, Jr.

STATS: Meagher was one of the area's strongest runners all year, winning three races outright this season and finishing second and third in two other big ones; Fighting an illness, she placed fourth in GISA Region 3-AA, then was held out of the state meet because she then came down with pneunomia; her best time this year 21:28


Kelly Conway, Deerfield, Sr.

STATS: Conway, a two-time winner of the POY for girls cross-country was hampered by injury all year and saw limited action. But when she ran, she was once again one of the best. She ran her best time of the year at the Region 3-AAA meet (21:14) and captured yet another region title, while being named to the All-Region team for the fifth year in a row. Conway did not run at state because of her nagging injury. Conway also won two meets earlier in the year.


Madison Sauls, Deerfield, 8th grade

STATS: Bursting onto the scene this year for the Lady Knights, Sauls was the team's fastest runner all year and became the first 8th-grader in school history to be named to both the All-Region and GISA All-State teams. She finished second to Conway in the region meet, running just eight seconds slower at 21:16 for her best time all year. Finished 10th at state, leading the DWS girls to their best ever finish as a team of second


Tanzy Hogsed, Southland, So.

STATS: Coming off a serious knee injury, Hogsed took off her knee brace this season and broke the school's 5k girls record, running 22:04. Hogsed also was named to the GISA Region 3-AAA All Region Cross Country team after finishing ninth. She finished in the Top 10 in six invitational meets including a runner-up finish at the Tiftarea Invitational and was the number one runner on the team all season.


Erika Taylor, Westover, Fr.

STATS: Region 1-AAA girls champ; named to All-Region Team; was the top runner for the Lady Pats all season in her first year with a best time of 20:40. Won Albany Invitational and finished second at Lee County Invitational Taylor finished 26th in the tough GHSA Class AAA meet.


Sachi Daughety, Westover, Jr.

STATS: 3rd at Region; named to All-Region Team for third year in a row; 21:22 was best time of the year; Daughety, who finished 36th in state, won the Monroe Invitational earlier this season at Robert Cross Middle School.


Claire Collins, Westwood, Fr.

STATS: Won Region 3-A Championship with a time of 24:22 in her first year on the team, while balancing softball at the same time. Collins also finished in the Top 5 of all meets the team had this year.
