ALBANY -- A wheelchair-bound Dougherty Countian who was targeted by a robbery suspect early Monday managed to take a handgun from his robber and hold the suspect until police arrived.
Terry Ryland Bryant, 17, was arrested and charged with two counts of armed robbery following an incident at 1:12 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Skylane Road.
Deidra McMillian, 30, told police she went to her car to retrieve something and was approached by an unknown male armed with a handgun as she was returning to her home, according to Phyllis Banks-Whitley, spokesperson for the Albany Police Department.
McMillian told police the robber demanded money. She complied and gave him some cash from her purse.
A second victim, Jerone Loren, 36, who uses a wheelchair, heard the commotion on the outside and went to the front of the house and told the suspect there was more money inside, police said.
"When the suspect entered the home, he gave him an undetermined amount of money," according to the release from Banks-Whitley.
"Afterwards, the suspect ordered Loren to go into the bathroom. But, as he turned to close the door, Loren grabbed the suspect's weapon and held him at gunpoint until officers arrived."
Banks-Whitley said the case remains under investigation. The weapon and ammunition in the case was recovered by officers.
