GBI seeks public help as it activates cold case

ALBANY -- She was found strangled to death in a field two miles east of Leesburg wearing just a T-shirt and underwear 18 years ago Tuesday -- and law enforcement officials have not let the case drop.

Katrice McKinney, 17, left a home on Ebony Lane to meet her death after midnight in 1992. She was last seen walking in Albany on Residence Avenue toward Madison Street.

At that time, 28-people came forward to be interviewed about the case. A $2,000 reward went unclaimed as the killer remained free.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lee County Sheriff's Office have not quit looking for her killer, a GBI news release stated.

The authorities would like the public's help.

"If anyone has any information regarding the murder of Katrice McKinney, no matter how minimal, they should call the Lee County Sheriff's Office," sheriff's Col. Chris Owens said.

Call Lee County Sheriff's Office at (229) 759-6034 and the GBI at (229) 931-2439.
