NASHVILLE -- All of Southwest Georgia may not have "gone country" just yet, but there's no question the region is having a huge impact on country music.
Lee County solo artist Luke Bryan and the four-man band The Lost Trailers -- two of whose members hail from Albany -- have been nominated for Academy of Country Music awards. And, as fate would have it, the home folks could end up facing each other for the Best New Artist ACM award.
Bryan, whose recent Capitol Nashville release "Doin' My Thing" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country album chart, was nominated along with Jamey Johnson and Chris Young for the Top New Solo Vocalist ACM. The new solo designation replaces separate male and female categories.
The Lost Trailers, whose "Holler Back" topped the country charts a year ago, join the Eli Young Band and Gloriana as nominees for the Top New Vocal Group ACM award. Albany's Geoffrey Stokes and Andrew Nielson are members of the band.
Winners in both categories will be determined by fan voting, which will begin Feb. 26. Once the Top New Solo Vocalist and Top New Vocal Group winners have been determined, the winners will compete for the Top New Artist award.
Voting for the Top New Artist will begin April 1.
The Academy of Country Music awards will be handed out April 18 in Las Vegas.
