Chamber to hold celebration for 148th

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs committee will hold a "Welcome Home Celebration" Saturday for the Foxtrot Company 148th Brigade Support Battalion. The 148th has just returned home after deployment to Afghanistan.

The day will kick off with a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Albany National Guard Armory on 1500 N. Monroe St., followed by a noon cookout at the Veterans of Foreign Wars facility on Philema Road.

In a news release, Chamber officials said, "The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee is grateful to our soldiers and all they do. To show our appreciation for the men and women of the 148th Brigade, the Military Affairs Committee is proud to be a part of their Welcome Home Celebration."

Capt. Monica Childs, commanding officer of Foxtrot Company 148th Brigade Support Battalion, said the unit appreciates the recognition.

"As we look to the future of our young soldiers, we can't envision the sacrifices each family has to make," Childs said. "We can only hope for a growing awareness and appreciation of each soldier, family and community."

The Foxtrot Company 148th Brigade Support Battalion is 150 members strong. They recently returned from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. In 2006 the unit was mobilized in support of "Operation Enduring Freedom."
