ALBANY --- The first round of the Southern Indoor Football League playoffs is under way.

The Albany Panthers are hosting the Louisiana Swashbucklers with a trip to the championship game on the line next weekend.

Albany is unbeaten at home this season.

***Minutes before the game, the SIFL announced its coach of the year and its MVP for the season.Panthers coach Lucious Davis was named the Coach of the Year, and Panthers quarterback Cecil Lester was named the league's MVP

***The Panthers did everything but score during the opening minutes of the game. Lester completed his first four passes, but failed to score when Antwontis Cutts dropped a fourth down pass at the Louisiana 6-yard line.

The Panthers got the ball right back when -- on the Swashbucklers' second play form scrimmage -- Alton Pettway slammed into quarterback Freddie Harris, who fumbled the ball. Larry Edwards recovered at the Louisiana 8.

The Panthers failed to score when Lester was stopped on a fourth and goal run from the one. He fell just short of the goal line.

***Louisiana strikes first as Sammy Knight intercepts a pass and returns it 16 yards for a TD with 1:56 left in the fourth quarter, and Swashbucklers add the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

SECOND QUARTER

***The Panthers score on the second play in the second quarter when Lester hits Clenton Rafe with a 29-yard TD, but Juan Bongarra's PAT is blocked, and Swashbucklers lead, 7-6, with 14:53 left in the half.

***Louisiana scores in two plays on a 25-yard TD pass from Harris to Marcus Wildridge and leads 14-6 with 14:10 left in the half.

***Levance Richmond gave the Panthers a chance to tie things up by intercepting a pass and returning the ball to the Louisiana 13-yard-line, and a face mask at the end of the play gave the Panthers a first-and-goal at the 6.

Davis replaced Lester with Andrico Hines at quarterback, but Hines failed to move the team an inch and fumbled the ball away on fourth down as the Panthers squandered their third opportunity inside Louisiana's 10.

* Hines continued at quarterback, but threw an interception to Knight, who picked off his second pass of the night.

***The Swashbucklers came right back and scored quickly on a 30-pass from Harris to Damien Henderson, who broke a tackle at the 20 and went untouched. The kick failed and with 1:57 left in the half, Louisiana leads 20-6

Lester returned at QB and drove the Panthers to the Louisiana 10 in the final seconds, but Bongarra's field goal attempt from the 17 sailed wide right as time expired and Louisiana took a 20-6 lead into the locker room.

***The Swashbucklers scored on their first possession of the second half on a 37-yard pass from Harris to Henderson and lead 27-6 with 11:23 left in the third quarter.

***Lester answers immediately with a xx TD pass to J17-yard TD pass to John Harris, and Bongarra's kick closes to 27-13 with 9:59 left in the third.

***Harris completes his fourth TD pass of the night, a 3-yarder to tailback Perry, and Louisiana leads 34-13 with 3:29 left in the third.

***Lester throws his third interception of the night and Damien Huren returns it 45 yards for a touchdown to lift Louisiana to a 41-13 lead with 2:17 left in the third quarter.

***Lester comes right back with a 45-yard TD pass to Harris, but Bongarr'as PAT hooks left. But Bongarra's follows the miss with an uno (a point on the kickoff) and the Swashbucklers lead 41-20 with 1:25 left in the third quarter.

QUARTER ENDS: 41-20

FOURTH QUARTER

***Davis pulls out his bag of tricks and Lester connects with 365-pound offensive lineman Marcus Lindsey for an 8-yard TD with 12:16 left in the game and Bongarra kicks Albany to within 14 points as the Panthers close to 41-27.

*** Lester scores on a 4-yard run with 8:38 left and Bongarra kicks in another PAT to close to 41-34, then nails his second uno of the night to close to six points -- 41-35. Lester's TD was set up by Demetrie McCray's interception as McCray picked off a pass at the Swashbucklers' 20 and returns it to the 4.

***Panthers drive to Louisiana's 9 yard line, but Knight intercepts his third pass of the night with 45 seconds left to kill the drive and the probably the season.
