ALBANY, Ga. -- Projects expected to be financed by sales taxes are the planned topic at a monthly meeting in East Albany.
"It is a sneak preview of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax projects," said Albany City Commissioner Jon Howard. "These projects between the city and the county of Dougherty will be on the November 2 general election ballot."
Howard's monthly town hall meeting is planned to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the East Albany Law Enforcement Center, 1721 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.
The renewal of a proposed 1-percent sales tax could generate about $98 million for six years of city and county capital projects.
The discussion will include but not be limited to projects such as:
* $2.6 multi-sport recreational complex.
* $3 million for a SOWEGA Council on Aging senior citizen center.
* $2 million for a new building at Thronateeska Heritage Center.
* $1.7 million for Chehaw.
* $2.8 million to the Albany Police Department.
* $10.6 million to sewers, street resurfacing storm water drainage.
* $7 million repair of the Broad Avenue Bridge.
