SYLVESTER, Ga. -- And they're off.
Two troops of Boy Scouts from the Chehaw Council specially formed for the trip, about 50 in all, left from Camp Obsorn this morning for the 2010 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree.
The jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., will mark the organization's centennial.
Scout leaders say the troops will spend today through Sunday touring Washington, D.C., before heading to the jamboree in Virginia.
In Washington, the scouts will be touring the nation's capital and will also be participating in the a large parade at The National Mall as part of the celebration of 100 years of scouting.
The Chehaw troops include scouts from Albany, Americus, Cordele and Sylvester.
"It's a great experience for all the boys," said Chehaw Council Scout Executive Ray Allen who added that the area Boy Scouts will be joining approximately 48,000 other Scouts from across the nation at the Jamboree.
The scouts will return on Aug. 5.
